The Empire Strikes
High Tide
LP

Released together with Savage Magic Records (USA)

The Empire Strikes combines the past, present and future of rock’n roll into one brilliant band hailing from Helsinki, Finland. The band started in 2012 and after a couple of EP’s, the debut album “1983” was released in March 2015 by Area Pirata Records. The album got great reviews and the band played sweat-soaked rock'n roll shows in Central Europe, Spain, Italy, The Baltics and Finland.

Now The Empire Strikes is ready to follow up on their critically acclaimed debut album with "High Tide". Teaming up with Bootleg Booze Records (Europe) and Savage Magic Records (North America), "High Tide" is full of energy, killer melodies and original hooks. Shows across Europe have molded the unit into one mean machine ready to take the rocking world by storm! Sources close to the band are convinced:

"High Tide” will be a really good and solid rock album, the kind they used to make back in the day, you know, but with a fresh The Empire Strikes 2.0 signature soundscape!"

The Pat Benatar Cover Single

It's tough, it's sweet and it's CC Company at there best declaring their love for Pat Benatar with this classic rock cover single.b>

First off is "Heartbreaker", this ballbusting chartbuster from -79 have NEVER rocked like this and the flipside has one of the best vocal combos you probably ever will hear in the stunning version of "Fire And Ice". The band is still the same power-trio: Joseph Tholl on vocals and guitar (Enforcer, Black Trip, Robert Pehrssons Humbuckers), Tobias Lindqvist on bass (Enforcer) and Jonka Andersson on drums (Tribulation).

Once again they have recorded the tracks with Olle Granat in his studio.

IMPERIAL STATE ELECTRIC
Reptile Brain
7"

Imperial State Electric is entering phase 3 in it's ongoing battle against mediocrity. An endless quest to make the rock roll. Armed with a new album called "Reptile Brain Music", due for release in late November, the first attack is set to October 18th with the 7" vinyl single "Reptile Brain".

After assembling the Imperial Army in 2010, Nicke Andersson (The Hellacopters, The Solution, Entombed etc.) has placed great emphasis on Imperial State Electric being a group, a band or a gang if you will. By no means a one man operation. Removing any doubt is the fact that bassplayer Dolf de Borst (The Datsuns) is handling the lead vocal duties on "Reptile Brain". When asked if Dolf is the best singer in the band, guitarist Tobias Egge says "He is a great man, and everybody loves him. He's an artiste."

"Reptile Brain" is backed with "Reptile Sludge" which is basically a sludgier take on the A-side with Nicke singing lead. Exclusively available on this single.

Why "Reptile Brain Music"? Dolf: - We want people to bypass some of their pseudo intellectual abilities when it comes to music and art.

Turn on your Reptile Brain and get with it!

IMPERIAL STATE ELECTRIC/MARY'S KIDS
split
7"

How do you make synth music sound good? You turn it into rock! Imperial State Electric and Mary's Kids takes on one Depeche Mode song each, "Policy of Truth" and "Never Let Me Down Again" respectively, and run them through their rock'n'roll filter.

You know by now that the ISE Corporation are very good at taking covers and turning them into their own songs, and we're sure that not everyone would have known that Mary and her kids didn't do an original if we hadn't told you. The original songs are still there in spirit, just made better.

Musically, Tramp weaves together decades of musical heritage. The melodies and harmonies are echoing from the 60's, the attack in the performance has more to do with the ‘70s and some big gestures could be from the 80's. Furthermore, they dig into their own world and weave everything together into something that lives and breathes in its own time.

It sounds British in head-on collision with the U.S. - a healthy cocktail of late '60s psychedelia and garage rock. Like New York punk rockers on a Magical Mystery Tour. Or The Damned spitting out Beach Boys songs. And sometimes as The Who in their best pop costume.

The melodies have their rightful place in the main room, all razor-sharp which makes them cut through glass and some of them sweeter than cotton candy. It does not mean that there is room for a violent turn as well, so palpable that it could get an anvil to start rocking to the beat.

It’s solid, it’s exciting, it’s self-assured, it crackles and hisses, it’s alive and laughing, it feels and it burns. It is Tramp.

Wow! This smacks you in the face as soon as it erupts out of the speakers! The album title is right on the money. Red hot blistering and wild! This fucking ROCKS! Moves along at a sweat inducing pace and just keeps burning up the stereo! This band HAS to be fantastic live! Super strong melodies, fuzzed out Real Rocking Roll guitar blasts, a powerful and fat backbeat, throbbing bass, and more all crammed into this hot rod. Makes you feel like smashing stuff just for the hell of it! Man, if this band from Lincoln/Nottingham, UK doesn't wake you up, you are dead my friend (and you wouldn't be my friend, I'm sure)! The UK, though you wouldn't know if from there totally shit music press that squelches anything new, is blooming with tons of new HOT ROCK & ROLL bands, and The Hip Priests are one of their best!

Back in the winter of 2002 my partner-in-crime, Jake Starr, and I were invited by the Hellacopters to accompany them on a 7 day whirlwind tour of Finland in support of the "By the Grace of God" LP. Needless to say, this was not something we had to be talked into. In the slightest.

When we were told that Oslo's Mensen would be opening all the shows we were even more into coming over.

Why? Well, in a nutshell both Jake and I are addicted to chick rock bands and Mensen were one of the finest.

That week was a blur and owing to some very shady actions by their US record label the band itself was destined to implode some months later.

But, kids, songwriters of the caliber of Mary Currie don't stay down for long. You are holding the result of her latest project in your hot, grubby mitts now. She has a assembled a crew of young guns. Her kids, you might say, and written an entire LPs worth of these great songs.

You are now hearing la crème de la crème of those songs right now. And, goddamnit, if "Destroy!" doesn't make your feet tap and your mind think. The powers that be HAVE taken our heroes and used them to sell cars and cruises. 20 years ago they didn't want to know who any of these bands were. And now? Doesn't that piss you off?

Fuck 'em, I say.

Bootleg Booze is proud to release the debut EP by Mary's Kids. They might be the first label to release this band's material but as sure as the hairs on my head (and other areas) are going grey they ain't going to be the last.

Listen to Mary's Kids and go back to a time when your rock was fresh, fun and most importantly, fucking honest.

And just what do we have here? 4 songs of exceptional quality. Jesus, "I Could Be Your Nightmare" sounds like an out take from any of the last 3 Nomads LPs while "Parasite In Paradise" conjures up visions of what could have happened if Roky Erickson ever got to Scandinavia. Augmented by the lead guitar of Rolf Uggen these songs are a step ahead of 99% of what passes for rocknroll these days.

And in a world of posed-out fakeness, the Incubators are the real deal.

I got some good news and some bad news about the new Accidents record. The good news is that it sounds exactly like "All High Time" only better, and the bad news? Well, there isn't any. It's still rabid turbocharged punk'n'roll mayhem where ol' Hank Williams Sr. gets the Devil Dogs-on-rocketfuel treatment.

Members of Hellacopters, Backyard Babies, Maggots and Maryslim declare their love to late classic 70s punkrock. And I must confess this Stockholm project succeed with these superb covers of "The American In Me" (The Avengers), "Center Of Lies" (Warheads) and The Users' "Sick Of You". The last song is probably my fave on the "Killed By Death vol. 1" comp, and these Swedes totally do justice to the track. Of course the production is slicker, there's now a twin guitar attack, but the essence is kept intact. AWESOME!

What attracted Singles Bar to The Accidents was the brilliant premise behind Dead Guys: Three songs, played by The Accidents, written by people who are dead! Whoah! Hang on, hasn't that been done by Westlife? Well yes, but the Irish fools would soil themselves if The Accidents were on the doorstep. Oboy is handled with studded finger gloves while the drums take more hits than a German fetish website. The New York Dolls' I Wanna Be Loved is an absolute screamer that Thunders would have no doubt thanked them for covering after years of limp interpretations.
...Tonight continues the rich harmonies but the wall of distortion could blow your balls clean off.

The Deadbeats have specialized their style round Traditional Rock with a lot of influences from the 70`s. I will call their style Groovy Traditional Rock with a dose of everything from Hellacopters, The Angels, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Kiss. What impress me most with releases like this, is that it sounds so real and down to earth. All kinds of technical equipment is put a bit on the side, and with vocals, drums, guitars, bass and hammond, The Deadbeats prove that it`s still possible to make quality rock music.

Presumably two more bands off the Scandinavian rock and roll production line because they're on the great Bootleg Booze label and, as you might guess, it's great driving music (especially if you like to go fast!) Bad Machine crank out two ball tearing punkers with metal leanings while V8 Wankers go toe-to-toe on the flip with a brace of their own songs in the style of Nashville Pussy or Motorhead.

"All Time High" is my pick of best drinking record in this issue! The press release states; "Instead of milk in the babies bottles they got whiskey, instead of sugar on their cereal they got cocaine, instead of lullabys they got Elvis" and labels their sound as 'Hillbilly Punkrock'n'roll'. Although the Swedes list Hank Williams (they cover "Pan America") as an inspiration, I'd call their highly infectious sound for 'good time drinking rock'n'roll singalong punkrock', think The Devil Dogs with more a snotty '77 punk style like The Adicts and you're halfway there.

What's not to like? Killer pairing of veteran US bands and a dead heat for which side wins. Who cares, spin 'em both. "Flying..." is as catchy as a cold sore and reeks of cigars and cheap whisky. The challenge is not to like it. Submit and sing along. LA's The Hangmen are like a latter-day Gun Club, maybe not as dark and a lot more snotty. "Never Go Home" is a sneering, Stoogeattack, snarly twangy guitars and an uncompromising bottom end. Great disc. The equal of two evils.

What came out is a trio named Crossfire invading Europe with their Rock 'n' Roll Power... ...the music's great of course.

Rickshaw are from Sweden, you should know this already, and in case you’ve been ignoring everything we’ve written in LGL about these guys, let me say it again. They kick ass! Their two tracks on this disc are no exception. They still rule! Noise Of Reality, also from Sweden, not only have a totally misleading name but they also have something else in common with their mates in Rickshaw. They too kick ass and huge amounts of it. Finally this Arvika based rock n roll band have made a following up to their great cd-single "Rock beast". This single just blew me away, its totally awsome! It include two songs "Fuck you" and "I do want you" wich both are fast raging rock music with disted guitars and vocals. The wax is really thick and heavy too wich was really cool. This is a must own if you like swedish garage rock.
